Our story

Aquaculture is a critical contributor to economic development in the Euro-Mediterranean region, but it faces significant challenges due to traditional linear economy practices that deplete resources. Recognizing the need for sustainable solutions, AZA4ICE was established to bridge the gap in managing close-to-coast and inland waters. Through the development of guidelines and innovative ecosystem aquaculture spatial planning approaches, we engage stakeholders across various sectors to collaboratively drive the transition to a circular economy, ensuring environmental conservation and economic growth.

Description of the Project in One Paragraph

AZA4ICE addresses the urgent need for sustainable aquaculture by developing and implementing innovative ecosystem aquaculture spatial planning approaches and circular economy practices in close-to-coast and inland waters of the Euro-Mediterranean region. The project engages diverse stakeholders through the Living Responsible Research and Innovation Ecosystems (LiRRIEs) to collaboratively develop Action Plans that foster the transition to an inclusive and circular economy, while preserving the environment and improving quality of life. By enhancing transnational cooperation, reducing administrative burdens, and promoting eco-consciousness, AZA4ICE aims to boost aquaculture, promote resilience, and ensure sustainable management of aquatic resources.
