On 8–9 July 2026, the AZA4ICE Transnational Event in Tangier, Morocco, brought together aquaculture actors from the European Union, Morocco and the United Nations to exchange knowledge and strengthen cooperation across the Mediterranean.
The first day focused on the future of sustainable and circular aquaculture. Opening contributions from representatives of Morocco’s State Secretariat for Fisheries and the Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food set the context for discussions on shared challenges and opportunities.
The programme covered aquaculture development in Morocco, challenges facing the sector, North–South cooperation and spatial planning for aquaculture. Participants also explored the AZA4ICE project and its contribution to circular and inclusive approaches.
On the second day, participants visited the INRH Aquatic Animal Pathology Centre of Excellence in Tangier. The visit connected the discussions with research and field expertise, creating further opportunities for exchange around the sector’s development.
By bringing together different territories and perspectives, the event strengthened dialogue between the two shores of the Mediterranean and supported cooperation towards a more sustainable aquaculture sector.
