On March 28th, Pôle Mer Méditerranée, partner of the AZA4ICE project funded by Interreg Euro-MED, joined forces with Chasseurs de déchets sans frontières, Bouchons d’Amour, and Cosmos Materia for a beach clean-up at La Bergerie in Hyères, France.
The initiative was led by Chasseurs de déchets sans frontières and Bouchons d’Amour, both part of the Marine Sciences Master’s student association at the University of Toulon. Their efforts brought together students and partners committed to protecting marine environments.
The day began with an awareness session led by Cosmos Materia, a science outreach organization. Using the interactive tool Mentimeter, participants explored the environmental impacts of plastic pollution and the importance of collective action.
A total of 28 participants took part in the clean-up, collecting 40.64 kg of waste along the 3 km stretch of beach in one morning. Plastic was the most common type of waste found, followed by household debris, cardboard, and glass.
Beyond the immediate results, this initiative reflects AZA4ICE’s ongoing commitment to protecting coastal ecosystems and raising public awareness about environmental challenges. Through collaboration and education, AZA4ICE continues to support actions that contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
